We quote what you need,
not what we have in the warehouse.

Ampere Solar has been installing in Durban since 2015. We're electricians first — two of the four founders still pull cable — which is why every quote starts with your last twelve months of bills rather than a package off a price list.

Most homes we assess need a smaller system than they were quoted elsewhere. We'll tell you that, in writing, even though it earns us less.

“The cheapest system is the one that's correctly sized. Everything above that is equipment you paid for and will never use.”
  • Registered with the Department of Labour, wireman's licence on file
  • CoC issued on every installation — valid for insurance and resale
  • Panels and inverters sourced locally, so warranty claims don't cross a border
  • Ten-year workmanship guarantee alongside the manufacturer warranties

Systems we install

Installed prices, including mounting, wiring, commissioning and the CoC. No surprise extras once the scaffolding is up.

  • 5 kW hybrid system

    R119 000

Suits a three-bedroom home running lights, plugs, TV, fridge and Wi-Fi through an outage. 8 panels, 5 kW hybrid inverter and 5 kWh of lithium storage, expandable later without replacing the inverter.

  • 8 kW hybrid system

    R164 000

For larger homes or a home office that cannot go down. 14 panels, 8 kW inverter and 10 kWh of storage — enough to carry a geyser element or a pool pump through the evening peak.

  • Battery-only backup

    R74 500

No panels, no roof work. A 5 kW inverter and 5 kWh battery that keeps the essentials running through an outage. The usual first step when the roof isn't right for solar yet.

  • Load assessment & design

    R2 500

We log your actual consumption for a week, model it against your bills, and hand over a sized design with a payback projection. Credited in full against an installation with us.

What customers say

Three quotes said we needed 10 kW. Ampere logged our usage for a week and put in 5 kW for half the price. Two years on it has never once run out.
Devan P. — Durban North
They arrived when they said, finished when they said, and the invoice matched the quote to the rand. That should be normal and somehow it isn't.
Sarah M. — Hillcrest
The CoC and the wiring diagram arrived by email the same afternoon. Our insurer accepted it without a single question.

Straight answers

How long does an installation take?

A standard 5 kW hybrid is one day, occasionally two if the roof or the DB board needs work. We'll tell you which at the assessment, not on the morning.

Will it run my geyser and pool pump?

On an 8 kW system, usually yes — but not simultaneously through the evening peak unless we add storage. The assessment models exactly this, so you're not guessing.

Do I need municipal approval?

For a grid-tied system in eThekwini, yes. We prepare the application and the SSEG documentation as part of the installation — you sign, we submit.

What happens when the battery degrades?

Lithium batteries lose capacity slowly and predictably. Ours carry a ten-year warranty to 70% of original capacity, and adding a second battery later doesn't mean replacing the inverter — provided it was sized for it, which ours are.

Can I start small and add later?

Yes, and most people should. We size the inverter for where you want to end up and let you add panels or storage as budget allows.
